Urban Bridge

The Rockaway Peninsula is a peninsula at the southern edge of the New York City borough of Queens on Long Island, New York. With changing weather patterns there has been a steady rise in heavy flooding each year. In 2012, Hurricane Sandy devastated the community residing on the Penisula. Far away from the center of the city, funds to rebuild and recover were hard to come by. Years later, tremors of the devastation and displacement can still be felt. Urban Bridge is a proposal for a community center that functions dually as an emergency shelter for the surrounding community. The project’s programmatic objective aims to bring together the community through the education and implementation of sustainable urban food production, preparation, and distribution.
